STAYCATION IN PLAID
I am not travelling anywhere anytime soon, so I might as well make the best use of my summer closet with the sun regaling some goodness and radiating embrace. For the past couple of weeks, we have been having an amazing spell of sunshine in london, which has been great, following what has been happening in the world, so that is some welcomed respite to say the least.
Since I am spending summer in London, and we are have this spur of sunshine, this calls for a light airy fabric but my style still wants a statement piece to go with the sun while still looking stylish, my plaid linen makes this all possible.
During the summer months, I am always looking forward to styling my light fabrics like my linen pieces in plain pastel colours which are most definitely my go-to essentials for summer; plain tones like the light blues, pink, turquoise, dusty brown, white, off-white and more. As much as these are essentials and I would recommend you get these first when building a new capsule, I always like the added depth to my seasonal capsule, that is why I would highly recommend the plaid design.
Talking of fabric design, there are many other types, most popular are the floral patterns which are a great option but still not an all round design.
To the point…
Ok, let me first start by telling you how l love plaid patterns especially for suits; it adds additional statement to any piece, suit or jacket, giving a sense of class, elegance and suave when styled appropriately.
By today's usage, I would say plaid is any type of fabric with a check pattern consisting of long bands (stripes) running horizontally and vertically, intersecting each other. Some in pin stripes and other in a bolder stripe but not chalk.
As mentioned earlier, suits, jackets and pants are a great statement piece with plaid designs/patterns, but when it comes to shirts, I have always had mixed feelings about that, and as a result, I have reserved my opinion because I feel it has made me look a certain age (do you get that too?!)
These Portuguese plaid linen has changed my mind especially with the MTM option, so I can easily make it feel more like me: the collar of choice is a large roma spread and the fit is slim, while the linen gives the entire look an airy and soothing feel.
Summer for me is usually light, bright, pastel colours which are great and should be staples in any summer wardrobe, but I think plaid patterns done with the right fabric, cut and designs give off an added stem to an already colourful and stylish summer look for any man.
On its own, its loud, bold, subtle, carefree and very casual, all at the same time. This can be paired with white shorts, brown pants, off-white pants, or even a pair of navy shorts when headed to the park or beach (if you’re near one) .
Plaid would definitely be a staple in my summer capsule just to add that little extra vavavoom to my staycation, so in my opinion, plaid pieces should be added if you want to diversify your fabric design but still retain the stylish and elegant look in your summer wardrobe just like you have floral prints and plain pastel colours as well.
